Li Auto Launches Li MEGA at RMB 559,800, Marking Entry Into '3.0 Era'

Stepping into the all-electric market, Li Auto has finally taken its most ambitious step yet.
On March 1, at its spring launch event, Li Auto officially released the Li MEGA, the company’s first all-electric vehicle. As an all-electric MPV, the Li MEGA is available in a single trim level with a nationwide retail price of RMB 559,800. Deliveries are scheduled to begin on March 11.
Regarding the Li MEGA, Li Auto Chairman and CEO Xiang Li expressed strong confidence, stating that it will become the brand's next blockbuster model and aims to achieve the number one sales position in the segment for vehicles priced above RMB 500,000.

Notably, alongside the launch of the Li MEGA, Li Auto also officially released three extended-range models from the 2024 Li L series: the Li L7, Li L8, and Li L9. These models feature updates across various configurations, including intelligent systems and air suspension, covering a price range of RMB 319,800 to RMB 459,800. Deliveries for these models will commence on March 3.
By striving to enhance product competitiveness, Li Auto has further expanded its pricing tier and formally established a product portfolio combining "extended-range + all-electric" categories. With the addition of the MEGA, Li Auto’s product lineup has undergone a qualitative transformation.
Consequently, Li Auto itself has officially entered a new stage of development.
MEGA: Li Auto's Pure-Electric Showcase
What role does the MEGA play in Li Auto's latest product lineup?
In terms of pricing, the Li MEGA, at RMB 559,800, is undoubtedly Li Auto's most expensive vehicle; in terms of size, with flagship dimensions, it is a pure electric seven-seater designed for large families; and in terms of classification, it is a family tech flagship MPV.
All these points highlight the unique significance of the Li MEGA.
From 42HOW Auto's perspective, the MEGA serves as a culmination of Li Auto's comprehensive product capabilities within its pure electric framework, or more precisely, a showcase presentation of its products for the new energy vehicle era.

Given this premise, the Li MEGA represents the best that Li Auto can offer across all aspects of a pure electric vehicle.
For instance, range anxiety has long been a significant pain point in the pure electric market. Li Auto has previously stated multiple times that charging efficiency is a core issue that needs to be addressed. Therefore, on the MEGA, Li Auto has provided a complete set of solutions to tackle range anxiety for pure electric vehicles:
Equipped with a battery pack with a total capacity of 102.7 kWh, it offers a CLTC extra-long range of 710 kilometers, thereby ensuring the vehicle has a longer driving range.
To support 5C ultra-fast charging, the Li MEGA adopts an 800 V high-voltage platform and is equipped with a Qilin 5C battery pack, enabling a charging speed of "500 kilometers in 12 minutes".
Working in tandem with the vehicles themselves, Li Auto is building a nationwide 5C ultra-fast charging network and has already established more than 300 supercharging stations.
To extend its driving range, the Li MEGA adopts a design style that achieves an extremely low drag coefficient of 0.215. Combined with more efficient silicon carbide power chips, this results in a low energy consumption of just 15.9 kWh per 100 kilometers.

Notably, in urban scenarios, Li Auto also stated that charging stations adopting the franchise model will be widely deployed on a large scale in 2024. The Li MEGA achieves an average charging power of 300 kilowatts at urban supercharging stations, replenishing 500 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes. Additionally, the Li MEGA will offer a 20-kilowatt DC charging pile as an optional accessory, comprehensively covering daily energy-replenishment scenarios for pure electric vehicle users.
Overall, to address the range and recharging challenges inherent to pure electric vehicles, Li Auto has invested heavily in both its products and the construction of recharging infrastructure, a commitment fully reflected in the Li MEGA. Moreover, strategic layouts such as high-voltage pure electric platforms and ultra-fast charging networks are designed not only to serve the Li MEGA but also to support other future pure electric models released by Li Auto.

Beyond range and charging—pain points unique to pure electric vehicles—the Li MEGA’s exterior silhouette boasts unprecedented recognizability. Regardless of whether it aligns with individual aesthetic preferences, it is undeniably a standout presence on the road.
In terms of space and comfort, the Li MEGA leverages its 5.35-meter length and the inherent advantages of its dedicated EV architecture to provide 3,791 millimeters of usable interior length, ensuring ample legroom and headroom for third-row passengers. Additional features such as Magic Carpet seats, a co-pilot 'queen' seat, second-row independent electric massage recliners, smart home devices, premium audio systems, an intelligent refrigerator, and a 220V outlet further enhance the vehicle's comfort.
Xiang Li remarked directly: "The refrigerator, color TV, and sofa have been upgraded once again. Buying a Li MEGA is like spending the price of one car to acquire an entire apartment, complete with a complimentary home theater and full set of furniture."

Regarding driving dynamics, the Li MEGA adheres to a comfort-first philosophy, equipped with a dual-motor intelligent all-wheel-drive system and Magic Carpet Air Suspension Max. Notably, the absence of an extended-range engine gives the Li MEGA a noise advantage over EREV models. Combined with double-laminated glass across all three rows, the vehicle aims to deliver what the manufacturer calls "the best overall cabin quietness."
In terms of safety, the Li MEGA pursues "the highest safety standards," featuring side-wind assist, a HUD digital rearview mirror camera, and a streaming media interior rearview mirror.
In terms of intelligent features, the Li MEGA goes all out. Hardware includes dual NVIDIA Drive Orin-X chips, a LiDAR sensor, and the Gaotongxiaolong 8295P high-performance processor. Software features include the AD Max intelligent driving system and the Ideal Companion powered by Mind GPT. None of these key intelligent configurations are missing—meaning this is the area where the Li MEGA differs least from the Li Auto L series.
Overall, from every product perspective, the Li MEGA is undoubtedly a "feature-stacked" vehicle. However, this stacking is not blind; it remains organic. In building this family tech flagship MPV, Li Auto has endowed it with exceptional product strength while consistently targeting family users across all dimensions.

As Xiang Li stated: From its very first day, Li Auto was born for families.
Disrupting the Market Above RMB 500,000: What Makes MEGA Stand Out?
Xiang Li himself has high hopes for the Li MEGA.
At the spring press conference, Xiang Li stated that the Li MEGA is a groundbreaking product designed for large families. It will also become Li Auto’s next blockbuster model and completely disrupt the sales landscape for vehicles priced above RMB 500,000. Specifically, within Li Auto’s vision, the Li MEGA aims to become the number-one seller in the segment above RMB 500,000, regardless of energy type or body style, breaking the traditional perception that premium pure electric vehicles cannot achieve blockbuster status.
So the question arises: With what confidence does the Li MEGA aim to target and disrupt the market for vehicles priced above RMB 500,000?

On one hand, this is related to the overall market conditions.
During the interview, Li Xinyang, head of product for the Li MEGA, told us that in 2023, the Chinese automotive market segment priced above RMB 500,000 had a total market size of approximately 600,000 units. This figure includes all powertrain types and vehicle classifications. At the same time, within this market size, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles was very low, at just over 10 percent. This means that if a well-designed product is introduced, there is significant room for growth for new energy vehicles in this price range.
Interestingly, in 2022—the year before the Li L9 was launched, which was 2021—the market in the RMB 400,000 to 500,000 price segment was in a similar situation (the two are remarkably similar), with total sales of around 600,000 units and a new energy penetration rate of just over 10 percent. However, after the launch of the Li L9, in 2023, the RMB 400,000 to 500,000 market not only saw its overall scale grow significantly, but its new energy penetration rate tripled, now approaching 40 percent.
Li Xinyang believes this illustrates a simple truth: market demand exists objectively, but there has been a lack of suitable product supply. Therefore, in the context of electrification and intelligence trends in the new energy era, for the market segment above RMB 500,000, Li MEGA aims to deliver a high-quality product that meets user needs.
Notably, after research, Li Auto concluded that vehicles sold in this price segment are primarily MPVs. In fact, more than 80 percent of car purchases in this category are for family use, and the proportion of family purchases increases with the vehicle's price. This is also the basis for Li Auto's confidence that the Li MEGA can achieve first-place market share in the market above RMB 500,000.

On the other hand, this is closely related to the product positioning and pricing strategy of the Li MEGA.
42HOW Auto notes that, at the product level, the Li MEGA frequently benchmarked against products such as the Toyota Alphard during its launch event. It also benchmarked against relevant BMW models in terms of space, presenting a clear advantage in parameter performance. Regarding configurations such as comfort and convenience, the "feature-stacking" strategy adopted by the Li MEGA made the benchmarked models look inferior.
It is worth noting that in areas where new EV makers are generally more proficient, such as intelligence, the advantages of the Li MEGA over these benchmark models are also obvious, particularly in autonomous driving.
At RMB 559,800, the Li MEGA’s nationwide retail price offers a degree of cost-effectiveness compared to premium models with inflated markups, such as the Toyota Alphard. This pricing is one of the key factors driving Li Auto’s attempt to disrupt the market segment above RMB 500,000.

What is the pricing strategy for the Li MEGA?
Fan Haoyu, Senior Vice President of Product at Li Auto, explained that the logic is straightforward: calculate the total cost of all vehicle components and apply a reasonable gross margin that allows the company to sustain its development. The final price is derived from this calculation.
However, Fan Haoyu admitted that the Li MEGA’s pricing involved internal debate. Product team members wanted to set a higher price, while the sales division favored a more moderate figure to ensure market acceptance. The final price reflects a compromise between these perspectives.
He emphasized that viewing the issue through first principles reveals that many traditional brands carry high premiums despite low production costs. This model is unsustainable in China’s fiercely competitive market. Conversely, slashing prices to boost sales without generating any gross margin is also unsustainable. Therefore, finding a balance is essential.
The Li MEGA will be offered in a single configuration and price point. Internally, there was consideration for adding multiple trim levels, but it was ultimately decided that buyers in this price segment are not sensitive to price differences of tens of thousands of yuan. Instead, they prefer to receive the best possible product upfront without the burden of complex choices.
Notably, to support its goal of becoming the top seller in the over-RMB-500,000 segment, the Li MEGA has prepared its production capacity accordingly.

Regarding this question, a Li Auto representative told us that the company has built a new factory in Beijing for its pure electric product line, and overall production capacity is very sufficient. Based on confidence in Li MEGA's sales volume, Li Auto has also made specific capacity preparations. Furthermore, Li Auto's supply chain and factory capacity possess certain elasticity; if there is greater market space, it can meet the demand.
Li Auto's 3.0 Era Has Officially Begun
Li MEGA is undoubtedly a milestone product for Li Auto and the absolute protagonist of this spring press conference.
However, what must not be overlooked is that from a sales perspective, the three models of the 2024 Li L series released this time are truly the main sales drivers for Li Auto in the coming period. After all, from a product perspective, the 2024 Li L9, Li L8, and Li L9 indeed offer very competitive product upgrades.
For example, the launch of the three 2024 Li L series models includes standard Magic Carpet Air Suspension across the entire lineup, comprehensive upgrades to comfort configurations, and an upgrade to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip across all models. In addition, the Max versions of all three models are equipped with an extended-range electric system featuring a large 52.3 kWh battery, while the Pro and Max versions of the 2024 Li L7 and 2024 Li L8 are equipped with AD Max...
In short, the configurations of all three 2024 Li L series models have seen significant improvements, while prices remain stable—almost certainly confirming that, given the substantial increase in product strength and maintained pricing, these three models will continue to serve as Li Auto's sales mainstays after delivery begins.

Although the Li MEGA will contribute to sales, it does not need to carry a heavy volume burden given the market size of the price segment above RMB 500,000. After all, Li Auto plans to launch several models in its M series this year within its pure-electric lineup; these vehicles, alongside the Li L series, will jointly shoulder the company’s annual sales targets.
It is worth noting that the Li MEGA has already set the product tone for the upcoming M-series pure-electric models.
Against this backdrop, we can now clearly see that the “electric strategy” within Li Auto’s “dual-energy strategy”—which pursues parallel development of extended-range electric and high-voltage pure-electric technologies—has officially begun implementation and will complete its initial layout this year. Simultaneously, the “intelligence strategy” within the dual-energy framework has been fully integrated into all of Li Auto’s extended-range and pure-electric models.
This marks a qualitative turning point in Li Auto’s development history.

Looking back, through the Li ONE, Li Auto completed its journey from zero to one between 2018 and 2022. This was a period of building systems and establishing a foothold in the automotive industry—a relatively long process we refer to as Li Auto’s 1.0 era.
Through the Li L series, Li Auto evolved from a single extended-range product to a comprehensive extended-range product system between 2022 and 2023. It achieved continuous construction of hit models, a surge in overall sales, and successfully captured a leading position in the new energy vehicle market above RMB 300,000. This helped Li Auto become a top-tier Chinese new-energy automaker in terms of revenue and profit, a phase we call Li Auto’s 2.0 era.
Now, with the launch of the Li MEGA, Li Auto has officially entered a stage of parallel operations across both extended-range and pure-electric product lines. Extended-range products continue to stabilize the core sales base through configuration upgrades, while pure-electric products pursue a price-downward strategy from high to low. Although there are differences between the two, they share significant synergy in charging infrastructure and supply chains. Consequently, this will bring deeper challenges and transformations to Li Auto’s entire supply chain, infrastructure, organizational, and technological systems.
Regarding this stage, we call it Li Auto's 3.0 era.

This phase has just begun, so Li Auto still has a great deal of work ahead.
For example, regarding charging infrastructure, Li Auto plans to invest more than RMB 6 billion in the future to build over 5,000 direct-operated 5C charging stations, covering 95% of national highways and major national roads.
At the same time, in terms of intelligence, Li Auto plans to make staggering investments (as stated by Fan Haoyu) over the next two years; specifically for autonomous driving, Li Auto AD Max’s full-scenario autonomous driving will be available on urban roads nationwide in the first half of this year, with the ultimate goal of achieving 'global availability'...
These goals are distant but not out of reach.

For Li Auto, it has locked in a product layout of '1 super flagship + 5 extended-range electric vehicles + 5 high-voltage pure electric models' to be realized in 2025, with this super flagship already launched—however, before this final product layout is fully established, Li Auto must first welcome the subsequent release of the L6 and M series products in 2024, aiming to hit an annual sales target of 800,000 units.
The launch of the Li MEGA serves as the starting gun for Li Auto’s sales push in 2024. The gun has fired, and the push is underway.
