Former Flyme Auto PM Xiao Shuai on CarPlay Ultra’s Impact at Aston Martin
Aston Martin and Apple recently unveiled the implementation of CarPlay Ultra, the next-generation CarPlay 2.0 that first debuted at WWDC in 2022. Despite high user expectations, the product’s launch on the Aston Martin DBX failed to generate enthusiasm: customizability of the instrument cluster was significantly limited by constraints on non-standard screen shapes, automakers maintained a firm stance on core data permissions such as autonomous driving, and the HMI design that once impressed users did not materialize as anticipated.
So, can CarPlay Ultra, which many users have been eagerly awaiting, continue to dominate among ultra-luxury brands? Will it bring a truly disruptive shift amid China’s intense competition in intelligent vehicle technology?
In this episode, we are honored to welcome Xiao Shuai, former Product Manager for Flyme Auto. He played a key role in defining and refining the Flyme Auto system and brings extensive experience and insights, particularly in the highly praised area of smartphone-vehicle connectivity.
