XPENG 520 AI DAY: Decoding AI Intelligent Driving

At the 520 AI DAY event held on May 20, XPENG showcased its latest advancements in artificial intelligence and announced the rollout of a new AI Tianji system designed to enhance intelligent driving and cabin experiences across its vehicle lineup. The system began rolling out to all currently available models starting that evening, signaling the company's ongoing iteration and innovation in smart automotive technology.

XPENG Motors Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng revealed that the first model in the MONA series will be unveiled to the public in June, further heightening market anticipation for the company's new product line. XPENG has established core R&D capabilities in perception, localization, planning, and decision-making algorithms, demonstrating strength in data processing and analysis across both vehicle-end and cloud platforms.

XPENG released its end-to-end large models, including the neural network XNet, the planning and control large model XPlanner, and the large language model XBrain. These models were developed based on video training covering over 1 billion kilometers, real-vehicle testing of 6.46 million kilometers, and simulation testing of 216 million kilometers. The company plans to enhance its intelligent driving capabilities by 30 times within the next 18 months. It aims to achieve nationwide coverage of intelligent driving by the third quarter of 2024, with urban and highway intelligent driving experiences reaching comparable levels by 2025.

While advancing intelligent driving technology, He Xiaopeng noted that XPENG plans to deliver L4-like intelligent driving experiences in China by 2025. The company is currently conducting global testing of XNGP end-to-end capabilities, marking a firm commitment to achieving advanced autonomous driving technology.

To accelerate the R&D of intelligent technologies, XPENG plans to invest RMB 3.5 billion in 2024 and add 4,000 professional technical personnel. Additionally, the company will invest more than RMB 700 million annually in computing power training to support its AI development.

The upgrade to XPENG's AI Tianji system not only increased the system's frame rate and response speed but also improved application launch times, significantly enhancing user interaction. Additionally, XPENG introduced a 'global large language model' and launched the in-car assistant AI Xiao P and AI Driver features based on this model. These include AI Valet, AI Parking, and AI Bodyguard. The AI Parking feature covers fully automatic remote parking and multi-scenario parking, demonstrating the company's deep research and application in intelligent assisted driving.

Commentary:

The upgrade of XPENG's AI Tianji system is undoubtedly further proof of its continuous innovation and technical strength in the field of intelligent driving. Based on video training of over 1 billion kilometers and real-vehicle and simulation testing of hundreds of millions of kilometers, XPENG's advantages in autonomous driving algorithm development and data processing are evident. This provides the possibility for achieving nationwide coverage of intelligent driving and an L4-like driving experience.

However, XPENG faces obvious challenges. In the increasingly fierce industry competition, how to maintain its technological advantage and market share will be an important issue it needs to address. At the same time, how to maintain good financial health while investing heavily in R&D is also a problem XPENG needs to consider.
