About the fact that I have been freeloading on NIO's YUE XIANG subscription for a month — Working scenario experience / About endurance.

Hello everyone, I’m back to enjoy the ES8 without spending a dime. Since the last article was published, I have been using it intensively for nearly 2 weeks.

Without further ado, let me show you my car usage so far (21 days).

Hmm… 86 hours… 4213 kilometers… unbelievable ~

Why did you travel so much?

First of all, let me briefly introduce my work background here:

  1. Engaged in the auto parts industry
  2. Mainly responsible for supplier resource development
  3. Need to conduct follow-up and inspection on surrounding suppliers

Since the impact of masks has gradually decreased since the spring, our department has received a large number of supplier development requirements in the past two weeks. Taking advantage of the momentum of using the ES8 for free, I completed a long journey of about 3400 kilometers in two weeks. It can be considered as a brand new and thorough understanding of this car.

How does it feel to travel 3400 kilometers?

To talk about the most intuitive impressions of this 3400-kilometer trip:

  • The ES8 has really high long-distance driving comfort! High sitting position, high visibility, and easy control of road conditions.
  • Although it is a first-generation platform, the assisted driving on the highway is still very powerful!
  • The explosive power brought by the dual motors makes overtaking effortless!
  • The fully covered high-speed battery swapping network is always one step ahead!
  • There is a lot of wind noise, although it can be actively reduced, the wind noise cannot be avoided.
  • At low temperatures, the energy consumption of cruising at 120 km/h on the highway is really high!!

As shown in the above figure, the outdoor temperature at that time was 4 degrees, the audio was playing, the front air conditioning was set to 22 degrees on auto, the seat heating was on level 1, the steering wheel heating was turned on, the navigation assistance was turned on, and the speed was set to 120 km/h. The stable energy consumption was surprisingly as high as 29, and on uphill sections it once exceeded 30.

Fortunately, no panic, with the support of high-speed service area battery swapping stations. Although the cost has increased, everything is still under control.

In recent days, the temperature has risen, and in the most recent high-speed driving, with an outdoor temperature of 14 degrees, the energy consumption of 120km/h navigation assisted driving has dropped to 25.5. It can only be said to have regained a little confidence.“`markdown
Guessing that in low temperature and rainy environments, the air conditioning and battery thermal management systems need to work more efficiently, resulting in increased energy consumption. While cruising at a speed of 110km, the energy consumption continues to decrease, about 23.5.

So, second-generation platform partners, you can rejoice quietly (awkward).

Cost?

As my 4 free battery swaps ended before this long-distance trip, I calculated the charging/battery swap costs for this 3,400 km journey.

Total charging/battery swap cost: RMB 1,145.51, driving a distance of 3,400 km, costing RMB 0.34 per kilometre.

How do you feel about ES8’s cost performance?

Work Related

Of course, in addition to range and driving experience, ES8 also played an important role as a:

mobile workstation/resting place

  • Due to work requirements, my colleague and I handled some emails and documents on the road, and both the queen seat in the first row and the adjustable space in the second row provided ample workspace for passengers in the car.
  • Thanks to the excellent space layout, even if the first and second rows are spread out with laptops for work, it does not appear crowded. We even had a remote video conference in the second row at the service area, which is amazing!
  • I personally think that the backspace of the ES8 is functional enough to replace some of the travel needs of the commercial vehicle. Although it does not have a very spacious backseat like a traditional MPV, it is more than enough as a temporary workstation.
  • Due to habit, the suspended queen seat has become the core location for my nap. During the long journey, with the developed high-speed battery swap network, it really achieved the efficient travel state of people and vehicles not resting at the same time.My understanding of the NIO temperament is to do ordinary things with more ceremoniousness, especially evident during the rest mode. I won’t delve into it here.

Colleagues have all said that the space in the back row is pretty good!

Other Feelings (Digression)

  • The recognition rate of ES8 is quite high. Every supplier I encountered during the trip knew or was interested in this car to varying degrees, even car owners.
  • The wake-up rate of NOMI has been a bit low recently, forcing me to speak loudly to him every time. Awkward.
  • In comfort mode, the steering wheel is too light, especially on highways, and it is prone to deviation. Setting it to standard for the highway in personalized mode is the best choice.
  • With suspension, it handles high-speed bumps and low pits with ease, significantly improving comfort.
  • The usage rate of assisted driving on highways is over 90%, saving more than 80% of energy. I drove 400 kilometers without feeling tired or fatigued, and it was perfect!
  • The seat of the old ES8 is really hard, and my iron waist skill is just starting. I am looking forward to a fully self-developed seating system for the new ES8!
  • The high-speed endurance of SUV models has always been a weak point, with much greater wind resistance and noise than sedans. Sound insulation and drag reduction are still a long way to go!
  • I’ve changed the battery 17 times in total, most of which were unstaffed battery swapping stations. The fastest swapping time was about 4 minutes (Sucheng Service Area) and the slowest time was about 6 minutes (Xinchang Service Area). There were no failed records.
  • The latest version also updated Netease Cloud Music! I hope it can be added to the dashboard as soon as possible!
  • Quick scenes are really good, learn and play more~
  • I hope YUEXIANG can provide some driving experiences and other benefits, instead of just offering four free battery swapping privileges. Who knows, it might lock in an intended car owner.
  • Currently, home charging is still the best choice. Car owners who have conditions should strongly recommend installing home chargers!

The above is my sharing for this issue. It’s the last week I’ll be spending with ES8, and I will try my best to provide you with more information.Bringing home more handsome photos and better user experience, thank you.**
