Euro NCAP Updates Latest Crash Test Results

Euro NCAP recently updated its latest crash test results, evaluating a total of 14 vehicles (with Xiandaishengda yielding two separate results for its high and low trims). Among Chinese automakers, the Leapmotor C10, DEEPAL S07, MG ZS Hybrid, and Shangqidatong MAXUS eTERRON 9 all received ratings.

Meanwhile, several European models sold in China were also tested, including the Porsche Macan Electric, Audi A5, Woerwo EX30, and MINI Countryman.

The conclusion: Most achieved five stars. In this recent batch of tests, only four models—MG ZS Hybrid, Xiandaishengda, Alpine A290, and Leinuo 5—received four stars. However, Xiandaishengda can achieve a five-star rating when equipped with an optional safety package, which enhances active safety capabilities.

Euro NCAP evaluates vehicles across four major scoring dimensions: Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Vulnerable Road Users, and Safety Assist.

In the first category, Adult Occupant Protection, among the 15 newly published results, the DEEPAL S07 scored highest at 95%. Achieving a score above 90% is difficult; only four out of the 15 models did so. For example:

Porsche Macan Electric scored 90%;

Mazda CX-80 scored 92%;

Shangqidatong MAXUS eTERRON 9 scores 91%

The MG ZS Hybrid scored the lowest in the adult occupant protection category, with a score of 75%.

Looking at the detailed scores, the DEEPAL S07 scored 15.2 out of 16 in the frontal crash test, showing good performance; it achieved a perfect score of 16 in the side pole test; and its neck whiplash protection performed well in the rear-end collision.

The second part covers child passengers. The Porsche Macan scored highest in this category, with a score of 90%. Other high-scoring models include:

Sibalusenlinren, score 89%;

Audi A5, Xiandaishengda, Mazda CX-80, scoring 88%;

DEEPAL S07 scored 87%,

The Leapmotor C10 scored 85%.

Looking at the detailed scores, the all-electric Porsche Macan received full marks (24 points) in crash protection, with key body areas of both 6-year-old and 10-year-old child dummies well protected. Other safety features were equally excellent.

Part three: Vulnerable road user protection. The highest score in this category went to Sibalusenlinren, with a score of 86%. Other models performed equally well:

Shangqidatong MAXUS eTERRON 9 and Mazda CX-80, scoring 84%;

The all-electric Porsche Macan, scoring 83%;

Looking at the detailed scores, VRU impact protection is a key factor, with Sibalusenlinren achieving a high score of 32/36 in this area. Meanwhile, the all-electric Porsche Macan, Audi A5, MINI Countryman, and Woerwo EX30 all scored higher than Chinese domestic brands in VRU impact protection.

Another aspect of vulnerable road user protection involves the automatic emergency braking (AEB) capabilities for pedestrians and cyclists. Very few automakers can successfully handle nighttime 'ghost probe' scenarios involving children; however, the Audi A5, all-electric Porsche Macan, and Leapmotor C10 all failed these tests. Furthermore, this version of the test introduced a new evaluation point for preventing 'dooring' accidents, although its weight in the overall score is likely low.

The final section covers safety assist functions. The Shangqidatong MAXUS eTERRON 9 scored highest at 83%, with the Woerwo EX30 closely following at 80%. Other key models:

MINI Countryman, scoring 79%;

Porsche all-electric Macan, score 78%;

Audi A5, DEEPAL S07: 77% score;

Leapmotor C10, score 76%.

Specifically, the Shangqidatong MAXUS eTERRON 9 performed excellently in four items: speed assistance, driver status monitoring, lane keeping, and vehicle-to-vehicle AEB. However, there are differences between Chinese automakers and European local automakers. European brands generally achieve high scores in vehicle-to-vehicle AEB but perform less well in speed assistance and driver monitoring capabilities, which is exactly the opposite of Chinese brands.

Quick Take:

A vehicle's crash test results directly reflect its ability to protect occupants in the event of an accident. High scores typically indicate that the car provides better protection for passengers during a collision. Do you check a vehicle's crash test ratings before buying a car?

Li Auto Winter Vehicle Usage Technology Sharing

At its winter vehicle technology day event, Li Auto introduced optimization plans for cabin heating and range in cold climates. Its developed multi-source heat pump system and precise whole-vehicle heat distribution scheme aim to address issues of slow cabin temperature rise and uneven temperature distribution.

A multi-source heat pump system replaces traditional PTC heaters, reducing energy consumption and volume while enabling rapid heating through 43 control modes and an electric compressor. The Li MEGA adjusts the number of foot-level air vents and their airflow distribution to ensure warmth for passengers in all rows.

In terms of intelligent climate control, Li Auto employs smart sensing technology to enable multi-scenario air conditioning management across the MEGA and L-series models.

Sensor data allows the vehicle to automatically identify changes in the external environment and adjust accordingly, improving temperature management efficiency—for example, by automatically maintaining cabin temperature and air quality when driving through tunnels.

Quick Take:

Li Auto's technological innovations not only address practical issues users face during winter driving but also significantly enhance the ride and driving experience, demonstrating Li Auto's strength in technology research and development. Overall, Li Auto's sharing of winter driving technologies effectively resolves multiple pain points associated with winter use through a series of innovative technologies, thereby improving the user's ride and driving experience.

Geely Galaxy E5 Safety Test Sharing

At the National Traffic Safety Day event, Geely Galaxy E5 collaborated with institutions such as Zhongqizhongxin and Yangshixinwen to complete the "Whole Vehicle Safety Devil Series Trial."

In multiple rigorous safety tests, the E5 passed water wading depth tests at four times the national standard and immersion duration tests at three times the standard, as well as high-speed underbody scraping tests where it withstood more than 36 percent additional collision energy without serious damage.

In the combined side-impact and pole-side impact tests, the E5 used an overweight surrogate vehicle for the experiments. The results showed that its body structure remained intact, and the electronic system operated stably under high-voltage conditions.

The E5’s safety design features a body structure built with high-strength steel, along with enhanced battery and interior protection measures, such as the Shengun Short Blade battery and automatically popping hidden door handles.

Quick Take:

Since its August launch, the Geely Galaxy E5 has performed well in the market, with deliveries exceeding 60,000 units and November sales reaching 19,010. Its advanced technology is also being applied to other upcoming models, making future performance worth anticipating.
