Huawei’s deeply involved car design

The overall model of the WENJIE M5 is very similar to SAIC’s Huawei Select SF5, but this time Huawei participated deeply in the design of the entire car, with new styles applied to both the interior and exterior.

The new car has five colors to choose from: Frosty Green, Ceramic White, Ice Crystal Gray, Gilded Black, and Quiet Sea Blue. The top-of-the-line four-wheel drive flagship version also has an exclusive Sky Blue color scheme.

The overall design adopts fluid and dynamic styling, with Huawei naming its front headlights the “Shark Fin Flow Light Car Headlights”. Although the coolness and recognition may not be as good as the “Σ” styling on the original SF5, coupled with the horizontal air intake grille, the overall look is more concise and futuristic, without being too flashy.

The new car continues to adopt a sleek crossover SUV design, with length, width, and height of 4770 * 1930 * 1625mm and a wheelbase of 2880mm. It is positioned as a standard mid-size SUV.

The rear of the car uses an eagle-wing-through taillight design, with a streamlined tail design and upward curved lines bringing a good visual experience to the entire car. The drag coefficient of the entire vehicle is 0.32, which is a good level among mid-size SUVs.

The display car on site is equipped with 20-inch low-drag two-color aluminum alloy wheels and high-spec Pirelli P0 performance tires. I have had the experience of driving the SF5 of Seres Huawei before, and it has a very strong grip performance.

The interior has undergone drastic changes, and the shadow of Seres Huawei SF5 is basically gone. Three interior colors are available: ivory white, extreme black, and agate dumpling.

The new and massive central screen uses a 15.6-inch horizontal narrow-border design with a screen-to-body ratio of 90%, supporting HDR functionality. The official resolution parameter is 2K, and it is equipped with a genuine Huawei Harmony OS car system.

At the same time, the new car is also equipped with Huawei’s own speaker system HUAWEI SOUND, with a peak power of over 1000W, low frequency down to 30hz, and supports 19-unit acoustic design and 7.1 surround sound. It is worth noting that even the main driver’s headrest is built-in with 4 units.

The new car is equipped with seamless panoramic sunroof, which Huawei claims can enjoy the transparency as if driving a convertible. It also uses the industry-leading architectural-grade micro silver Low-E glass, which can achieve a 97.7% visual ratio and block 99.9% of ultraviolet rays. Compared with ordinary glass, it has a 40% improvement in heat insulation effect, and comes with a detachable sunshade as well.

The BMW 5 Series is equipped with 12-way power-adjustable front seats with lumbar support for both the driver and passenger. In addition to ventilation and heating, the front seats also support massage. The seats are covered in Nappa leather. In addition, the new car also supports a 3-slot fragrance system.

There is a wireless charging panel with a power of up to 40W below the center console, equipped with a suede non-slip pad. There seems to be a ventilation device at the bottom to prevent overheating during charging. As a digital manufacturer, Huawei naturally pays more attention to this aspect than traditional car companies. In addition, we also see front cup holders that are not available on the Singulato Huawei Smart Selection SF5.

Opening the cover on the passenger side, there are two cup holders inside and the middle divider module can also be removed to form a large storage compartment.

The entire car has one USB-A and four Type-C ports, with a power of up to 66w for the Type-C ports. It can meet the fast charging needs of all Huawei products.

There is a face recognition camera designed on the A-pillar, which can automatically log in to the Huawei ID when getting in the car, and adjust the seat position, rearview mirror position, and vehicle system settings to the preset state.

Intelligent driving is also not to be missed. Wanjie M5 achieved a complete L2+ level intelligent driving assistance through 23 hardware systems, and also supports 360° intelligent panoramic parking. However, it is not currently equipped with the set of lidar system on the Arctic Fox Alpha S.

In terms of chassis, it maintains the ultra-high specifications of the Huawei Select SF5. The combination of full aluminum alloy material, front double wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension.

The powertrain continues to use the Huawei DriveONE pure electric drive extender platform. The four-wheel drive flagship version is composed of a 1.5T four-cylinder extender, front asynchronous AC motor, and rear permanent magnet synchronous motor. The comprehensive maximum output power reaches 365kW (315kW for the four-wheel drive performance version), the maximum torque is 675N·m, and the acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h is only 4.4 seconds.

Wanjie M5’s battery has been upgraded to 40kWh, and the gasoline tank of the extender is 58L, which can provide a total of 173kWh of power, and the total amount of electricity can reach 213kWh. Therefore, the WLTC comprehensive range of Wanjie M5 can reach 1102km, the NEDC comprehensive range can reach 1195km, and the CLTC range is 1242km.

In terms of convenient use of the car, the new car supports a maximum of 3500W/220V AC power output, which can provide great convenience for users in outdoor and other scenarios.

Wanjie M5 can be matched with Huawei’s home charging pile, supports 4G+Bluetooth intelligent networking, can intelligently recognize the owner, plug and charge, authorized charging, anti-theft charging, and orderly charging, and joins the national power grid charging scheduling to enjoy charging subsidies. In terms of safety, the charging pile supports gun head temperature sensing to prevent overheating and the pile body emergency stop to prevent accidents. It is worth noting that the charging gun supporting the pile has achieved the lightest weight in the industry, less than 400g.

Finally, the new car will be successively displayed in 180 Huawei flagship stores in 118 cities across the country starting from December 23. It will be available for test drive in 500 Huawei stores in 118 cities from January 20, 2022, and will be delivered after the Spring Festival in late February next year.
