"Real Winter Range Test" by Model Y Shenyang enthusiasts.

First of all, thanks to the enthusiastic user @欧文 from the 42HOW-Model Y Interest Group 2 for providing the full test. The test was conducted in Shenyang, using @欧文’s freshly delivered Model Y All-Wheel Drive Long Range version, in a temperature range of -12°C to -8°C.

The testing method was to charge up to 90% at a Supercharger (Mr. Ou also takes good care of his battery 😖), with a displayed range of 459km, and off we go!

Throughout the test, the car was driven as close to the speed limit of 120 km/h as possible. The two people in the car were driving an electric car at high speeds for the first time and were a little excited! The air conditioning was set at 20°C with occasional defrosting.

Below are the test results. It seems that the Model Y was not defeated even in the cold northeast during winter. After driving 265 km, there was still a remaining displayed range of 59 km. Looking back at the displayed range when we first departed, we can see that it was roughly 265/400 ≈ 66%, which means the actual range was 6.6% less than the displayed range. This result was similar to our previous testing in Shanghai.

Due to the testing method, this range can be considered a safety net for the vehicle’s actual range when driving in urban areas. By planning the route based on this discount rate, drivers can have a good idea of the actual range.

That’s it for the “Real Winter Range Test” by the group members. Thank you all for your attention!

Special thanks to @欧文, who provided this test. He is a typical big brother from Northeast China, enthusiastic and reliable.
