As of the end of February this year, the number of insured vehicles for the Ideal ONE has reached 2525. For some potential Ideal ONE customers, the question remains: to buy or not to buy?
However, the more crucial question is whether it is worth buying.
In the second issue of “Owner’s Reviews”, I interviewed three real owners of the Ideal ONE to share their authentic experiences and feelings about the car with you.
However, some friends have also expressed to me that relying solely on the expressions of three owners may have a degree of randomness.
Therefore, I interviewed an additional 10 owners to express their own experiences and provide advice on the advantages and disadvantages of the Ideal ONE, as well as recommendations to potential buyers.
Due to the large amount of interview content, I have divided the interviews into two parts: Part One and Part Two. Interested friends can look forward to Part Two.

“Users are not foolish, they always choose what is most suitable for themselves.”
When asked whether the Ideal ONE is worth buying, Jademo said so.
According to Jademo, he had previously been interested in Ideal’s SEV, “but unfortunately it was not released.” Regarding the SEV, he expressed regret.
Later, he saw news of Ideal’s preparation for releasing a new car on Weibo, which again piqued his interest. He told me that he has been paying attention to the Ideal ONE since the launch event.
Regarding the latest news about the Ideal ONE, he said that he obtains most of the information from the Ideal interest group that he joined in March last year, No. 42 Garage.
“I have test driven the Model S and have always been fascinated by electric driving. I have also paid attention to NIO. But Tesla and NIO are too expensive, so I have been hesitant,” Jademo said. “Afterwards, information about the Ideal ONE just started to ‘leak’ bit by bit in the group, and nearly all the attention shifted to this car.”
Because he became interested early on, in April last year, Jademo visited Ideal’s Changzhou factory, “at that time, most car enthusiasts haven’t seen a real car and could only try to ride it, but still couldn’t test drive it.”
In the same month at the Shanghai Auto Show, he brought his friends to take a look at the Ideal ONE together.
Jademo’s Ideal ONE on the day of delivery.It’s already August, and Jademo went to the ideal Suzhou retail store with his family to look at cars. “We decided to buy it then, so we made an appointment for a centralized test drive in early September.”
Jademo told me he was very excited the first time he drove the Ideal ONE, but more importantly, he wanted his family to test ride it. He felt reassured if they were satisfied.
“My mother was originally quite indifferent about this car, but on the way back from the test drive, she kept discussing the Ideal ONE with me and didn’t like any other cars on the road.” Jademo said. “Although I casually agreed with her, I was very happy in my heart, indicating that my taste is good.” When Jademo talked about his mother’s reaction to the Ideal ONE, he was proud like a child being praised by his parents.
Jademo went to the factory to test drive the 2020 new car at the end of November as a car owner experience officer. “I felt a sense of mission and pride. It was the first time I interacted so closely with a car company.” Jademo said.
On December 20, Jademo officially took delivery of the Ideal ONE in Suzhou and became the third registered owner of the car in Wuxi.
Advantages and disadvantages of the Ideal ONE
Jademo told me that the electric drive and intelligent configuration were his top priorities this time. The intelligent configuration of the Ideal ONE, including four-screen linkage and L2 assisted driving, was most attractive to him.
“The large space of the Ideal ONE is also one of the selling points, but it is not a necessity for me. I only have one child, and I don’t need 6 or 7 seats. However, the large space is a plus, and my family is more comfortable using the car. I usually use it as a four-seater.” Jademo said.
Disadvantages
Because the Ideal ONE is the first car of a new car manufacturer, his expectations were not particularly high. He said that the Ideal ONE had some minor flaws, but as long as they can be solved, he can accept them. So he has been using it with this attitude. Here are some places that fell short of his expectations.
- Energy consumption
“The power consumption is not bad. In winter, the power consumption is between 20 and 22. However, the fuel consumption is a bit high. I expected it to be no more than 6 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers on urban roads. In reality, it is 8.5 liters on winter urban roads. But considering the size of the car, the energy consumption is acceptable. - Range extender noise
On the range extender side, Jademo said, “Whether it’s a hybrid or an electric-keeping mode with high electric quantity, there is definitely sound and vibration, but it doesn’t disturb the mood. It’s just that the sound is not pleasant, like boiling water or washing machine dehydration.”
There have been two times when the sound of the range extender was significantly louder when running on hybrid mode with low electric quantity, below 10 percent, and even felt a bit like a tractor under rapid acceleration. The other case is the electric-keeping mode, because of abnormal power consumption when parked (OTA has been fixed), when the electricity drops below 60 percent, the range extender also works at full capacity and the noise is unbearable, which can be said to destroy the overall sense of luxury. My personal suggestion is that the range extender speed should not be strongly associated with power requests, and it should always run in the sense-free interval, so that people can forget its existence.”
- Suspension
Because the Jademo’s home is near a raised road under repair, the road is rougher. Under the comfortable mode of the suspension, when the vehicle speed is slightly faster, the body will sway more, while under the sports mode, it is a bit harder. After trying many times, they could only maintain composure by reducing the speed.

- There is a strange noise in the car
Sometimes it appears when the body sways, but not always. He said that the probability of it happening when he drives alone is higher, but the engineers in the car seldom hear it. So they only confirmed that there is a strange noise, but were not able to determine the source.
- Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS)
“The follow-up distance is a bit far, too conservative, and the starting and braking of the follow-up car are very close to humans, but not smooth enough, and there is room for optimization. The ACC follow-up car braking and starting will have a ‘click-clack’ sound, which should be the sound of triggering and releasing the AutoHold mechanism, which is quite obvious and not advanced enough.”
In summary, he believes that the main shortcomings are fuel consumption, range extender noise and vibration in low electric quantity, current sound, occasional strange noise, and room for optimization in the ADAS. There is also the steering wheel damping, which he feels is not delicate enough compared to the luxury gasoline vehicles he has driven. There are occasional “creaking” noises when adjusting the seat.

“The outer appearance and interior design are fairly timeless, matching the positioning for family vehicles and for such a large car. I believe that it won’t become outdated in 5-8 years.”
- Charging is considerably cheaper
Jademo’s apartment management doesn’t allow the installation of charging stations, so during his lunch break he uses fast charging stations near his workplace for 1.06 yuan per kWh. Charging is much cheaper and the pure electric driving experience is better. He is willing to charge once or twice a week. He has calculated that it costs about 50 cents per kilometer.

“In the 300,000 yuan price range, the Ideal ONE’s configuration and materials are quite competitive and cost-effective. I personally have enough confidence and tolerance for Li Xiang and Ideal, so I’m still very satisfied.
However, it’s still a new car manufacturer and there were quite a few initial problems, although most software issues can be fixed or optimized through OTA updates. In addition, the unfamiliar technology of range extenders requires additional learning costs and energy and not everyone loves to “tinker” with things.” said Jademo.Expectations for the Ideal Car

Advice for Prospective Buyers of the Ideal Car
When asked for advice for prospective buyers of the Ideal car, Jademo said, “I don’t want to just use the phrase ‘Support local products’ to promote Ideal cars. Buyers are intelligent and always prefer the best-suited option for themselves. Therefore, I would recommend being open-minded to new technology, actively experiencing and sharing it with others. Also, test-drive personally considering personal preferences, usage scenarios, and comparisons.”
“I’m not a blind fan, and I won’t blindly worship it.”
Chenxizhiyue believes that Ideal cars should be viewed objectively, not blindly praised. At first, he paid attention to NIO instead of Ideal, watched NIO’s first launch ceremony in full, and even test drove the ES8 in Beijing. However, due to mileage anxiety, he gave up on NIO as he lives in Guizhou.
However, through NIO, he came to know Ideal. He said, “Many articles mention Ideal when discussing NIO, and then I started paying attention to it. This also made me realize that some publicity is seemingly unintentional.”
At first, he didn’t have a deep understanding of Ideal ONE, and had some misconceptions about the range extender, believing that it generated electricity by consuming gasoline and then stored the electricity in a battery. He thought it was redundant. However, after correctly understanding the range extender’s mode of operation, he changed his mind and wanted to know more.
When asked why he chose Ideal ONE instead of a gasoline car, he said that he no longer desired the discomfort of driving a gasoline car and that comfortable gasoline cars were too expensive.## Ideal ONE for Chenxizhi

According to Chenxizhi, the active braking system of Ideal ONE has helped him avoid a low-speed rear-end collision. “At that time, I was talking to my wife with my head turned, didn’t notice the car in front had stopped, but the car braked by itself.” Chenxizhi said that the L2 driving assistance of Ideal ONE is reliable.
Disadvantages
However, there are still many defects and shortcomings in the product.
Chenxizhi believes that there is still much room for improvement in the maturity of the product. The biggest flaw is that the NVH control of the range extender is not satisfactory. “I went back to my hometown in Hubei this time, and when the range extender was used, I felt the NVH was too loud, especially on uphill sections.” Chenxizhi said.
Secondly, the software maturity is not high. “The connectivity network is a failure of the entire vehicle. It is supposed to be an enjoyment to watch movies in the co-driver’s seat on long-distance driving, but due to network problems, the screen is almost useless. Moreover, the wakeup problem of Ideal’s peer devices is unreliable.” Chenxizhi said.
“There are still many software problems, which are not very important, and there are no obvious bugs. It’s just that the maturity is not high, and it is not scientific and convenient to use.” He continued.
For example, the map display on the dashboard is too small, and the issue of the simulated clock display. The hour and minute hands are the same length, making it difficult to distinguish the time. It’s just for show.

He also said, “People who don’t have a deep understanding of the Ideal ONE, who haven’t driven it on long-distance highways, it’s hard for them to criticize it. The longer you use it, the more problems you will find. There is still a gap between the ideal and the reality. Therefore, the conservative publicity strategy of the Ideal is not unreasonable. We are afraid of boasting ourselves too much and suffering a heavier fall.”
Expectations for the Ideal
Morning Moon told me that he would like to express some expectations for the Ideal, “I am not an engineer and I know nothing about vehicle development. But as a user, I want to express some expectations, and I don’t know whether they are in violation of engineering technology.”

Accelerate the development of a professional range extender. He thinks that the size, NVH, and thermal efficiency of this range extender are not first-class. He hopes that the range extender can become the core technological advantage of the Ideal.

Replace with larger capacity or higher density batteries. This is the common expectation of many car owners. If the pure electric range can reach 250-300 kilometers, it would be great.

Satisfaction, 4.5 stars. The efficiency of the range extender still needs further optimization, the NVH of the range extender needs further control, and the sound system needs further optimization (above 120 km/h on the highway, the sound is unbearable). Software control also needs further optimization.
Recommend, 5 stars. The biggest reason for recommendation is that “this is a practical, cost-effective mid-to-large-size SUV for families. With the characteristics of hybrid power, it can achieve zero emissions in the city and no mileage anxiety on long-distance trips. The L2-level assisted driving system is more practical and easy to use than traditional cars. The workmanship and materials of the entire vehicle are full, which conforms to the aesthetic view of the Chinese people and is also a face-saving car to drive.”
# “A car is meant for use”
With the birth of their child, Mr. Zhang planned to purchase a car with ample space.
In 2018, he watched a new car model’s release event online, but didn’t make a decision at the time. He felt that the estimated price of 400,000 RMB (he guessed around 388,900 RMB) was a bit high, so he didn’t register for a number. However, he continued to keep an eye on the car afterwards.
Around December 2018, while waiting at a traffic light, Mr. Zhang suddenly decided to get a registration number, thinking, “it doesn’t cost anything, and it might come in handy.” So he got a number with a rank of 35,000. Later, he regretted not getting the number during the release event, “I regretted it all through the process of waiting to receive the car, why didn’t I get the number during the release event?”
On April 10th, the price of the new car model, Ideal ONE, was announced, and Mr. Zhang immediately paid the deposit. “I was a bit surprised by the price, so I talked to my family about it and then paid a deposit of 5000 RMB.”
In regards to the car’s requirements, he stated, “My wife and I basically have the same requirements for the next car: a 6 or 7-seat SUV with electric drive. We’ve had experience driving an electric car for a considerable time and we both find electric drive to be very comfortable.”
These two requirements eliminated a large portion of car options, so he focused on other minor requirements.
In terms of price, the highest budget Mr. Zhang could accept was 350,000 RMB, and he preferred to have assisted driving. Additionally, his family’s home couldn’t accommodate a charging post.
Therefore, the only car that met his requirements was Ideal ONE.
Previously, he also paid attention to the BYD TANG EV and NIO ES8. However, he said, “The TANG EV was a bit too small, lacking 6 or 7 seats and assisted driving. The ES8 looks great, but it’s too expensive for me.”
After placing an order, Mr. Zhang kept a close eye on the delivery progress of Ideal’s app.
On January 14th, around 10 pm, just as Mr. Zhang woke up on the sofa, he received a message from the delivery specialist: “I knew it was good news. When I opened the app, it showed that the car had already finished production.” Mr. Zhang was a bit excited recalling this moment.
On January 15th, around 6 pm, the delivery specialist informed Mr. Zhang that the PDI inspection was completed and they could pick up the car.
After purchasing insurance, because Mr. Zhang was still at work, he had his wife pick up the car. However, since his wife was pregnant, for safety reasons she waited in Nanjing for an entire day before Mr. Zhang went to Nanjing the next day and drove the car back home with his wife.According to Mr. Zhang, “the whole process from production, transportation, testing, preparation to delivery is very fast.”
Pros of LI ONE
- 6/7 spacious seats;
- Electric drive. Mr. Zhang said that electric drive cars are much more comfortable than fuel cars. “Although fuel cars also have CVT transmission, they cannot provide the powerful low-end torque and power capability that electric drive brings, and the electric drive noise will be much smaller. But compared with other pure electric cars, this is not an advantage;”
- Fast charging. “Compared with other hybrid models, LI ONE greatly improves the comfort of occasional on-the-go charging for users without charging piles, without waiting for a long time. This is not an advantage compared with other pure electric cars;”
- “As a hybrid power car, the battery is large enough, and the pure battery life is leading;”
- “The power is enough, but it does not surpass the same level. Under normal use conditions (not low battery low temperature long-term parking cold start), the power is at the level of 2.0T and 3.0T fuel cars’ non-high power versions, and there will be no situations where some hybrid cars have a large difference between electric and non-electric;”

Cons of LI ONE
- The floor is too high. Mr. Zhang said that everyone in their family is not tall, so boarding and exiting the car is not very convenient;
- “Currently (in winter), the sound of the range extender is not as pleasant as the sound of 4-cylinder or 6-cylinder engines. There will be a ‘gurgling’ sound, and the sound is very small and easily covered. But overall, Mr. Zhang feels that the sound is more prominent than when he test drove it, so he thinks this is a downside;”
- “The current exit-and-power-off mode is not very good. After the main driver exits and closes the door, the entire car will be powered off. The TV and air conditioner used by the co-pilot will all be turned off. If there is no one in the main driver seat, the co-driver needs to press the position behind the main drive’s seat cushion to turn on power;”
- “The logic of leaving and locking the car needs to be adjusted. After the main driver exits and closes the door, when walking to the back of the car, the car will be locked, which causes the charging port to be unable to be opened. It needs to be unlocked by the key, or the rear door needs to be pulled to unlock the car, in order to open the charging port;”
- “When watching TV in the car for a long time waiting for someone, a message will pop up every once in a while saying ‘long time unused, whether to turn off the entire vehicle power.’ This causes all the TV and everything that was being watched to automatically close and exit, and then need to click ‘no,’ and then reopen the TV to watch again. This is very annoying;”
- “The two cup holders under the rear air conditioning control area are a chicken rib application.”
Overall Satisfaction of the Ideal ONE
If you were to rate your overall satisfaction with the Ideal ONE and whether you would recommend it to your family and friends, how would you rate it? The total score is five stars.
The satisfaction rating is 4.5 stars, “because the Ideal ONE basically meets my actual needs, and there are some areas that can be optimized, mostly in the software aspect.”
The recommendation rating is 5 stars, “for users with this type of car needs (6/7-seat SUVs) and a budget in this range, I would highly recommend it with 5 stars. In my opinion, at this price point, there is no more comfortable car to drive than the Ideal ONE, after all, the car is bought to be used.”
Recommendations for Potential Ideal ONE Buyers
“For new car manufacturers and new brands, think carefully before buying your own car. Cars are bought to be used, and personal comfort is the most important factor. You should try driving it yourself, try it several times since it’s all free, and personal experience is more reliable than what others say.
If there is a charging station, it will be very cheap. Even if there is no charging station, its driving cost will be lower than that of similar gasoline-powered cars. Therefore, don’t expect to save too much money, the key is to drive comfortably. “
“Listening to others talk for a long time is not as real as your own experience.”
During the interview, this is the sentence that left the deepest impression on Jamie.
Jamie told me that he had been following Li Xiang’s Weibo for quite a few years. Through Li Xiang’s Weibo, he learned about the Ideal ONE.
“I happened to be preparing to change my car, and I looked at the cars in the 300,000 yuan price range. I found that the Ideal ONE had several advantages, such as power, space, configuration, technology, etc., compared to gasoline cars of the same level. And I don’t have any particular requirements for the brand, and I don’t pursue BBA. So I think the Ideal ONE is quite suitable.” Jamie said.
Jamie reserved number 560 and went to the factory for a test drive as early as April last year. He said that the driving experience was good, such as the auxiliary driving and power.

Exceeding and lacking of the Ideal ONE’s Expectation
Jamie said that the auxiliary driving exceeded his expectations. “The auxiliary driving can handle this kind of curve, which exceeded my expectations. I thought it couldn’t handle the high-speed ramp at first.”

In terms of shortcomings, compared to the central test drive, he felt that the range extender noise is more obvious now. Currently, there are two reasons for this: one is that the silent tires have been replaced, reducing tire noise and highlighting the noise of the range extender.
The second reason is that the IDEAL ONE is delivered in winter, and the range extender power has been increased a bit. Li Xiang previously stated in an article on the IDEAL App that OTA in March would reduce the noise of the range extender, but it has now been delayed until April.
Pros and cons of the IDEAL ONE
Cons
The main issues are some software details, which have room for improvement.
“Currently, the displayed range is NEDC. However, it is unlikely to reach the NEDC range in daily use, so the displayed range has little reference value. It would be great if the displayed range could be the estimated range calculated based on the latest energy consumption,” says Jamie.
Secondly, he hopes that the IDEAL App can display more information.
In addition, there is a small usage detail in the IDEAL App. When Jamie clicks to remotely turn on the air conditioning, if the phone is not connected to the vehicle at this time, he will be prompted to connect to the vehicle before turning on the air conditioning. He hopes that the App can automatically connect to the vehicle and send the remote command to turn on the air conditioning.

Furthermore, he suggests canceling the feature of “After turning off ACC, within 120 seconds of restarting ACC, ACC will automatically resume to the last set cruising speed.”
As for the reason, he said, “This feature is suitable for use on highways, but in urban roads, the speed limit before and after 120 seconds may be very different. For example, I use the driving assistant on the expressway with a speed limit of 80 and then enter urban roads with a speed limit of 40. At this time, if I turn on ACC again, the default speed limit is still 80, and the car will accelerate automatically, which is somewhat scary.”
In other respects, Jamie believes that the number of storage spaces in the IDEAL ONE is not superior to other individual car models. For example, there is no small drawer specifically for change and cards, no glasses box. Also, because there is equipment under the trunk cover, it is impossible to put things under the cover.
In addition, the IDEAL ONE SUV is higher than a sedan, so the elderly and children may need assistance getting in.

Speaking of why he wanted to buy IDEAL ONE, Ekinls said, “I happened to need a new car, and the major demands for car selection are electric drive, no mileage anxiety, large interior space, high configuration, intelligence, and suitable price. After looking at some cars, I think IDEAL ONE is the best choice around 300,000 yuan, and it can also basically meet my requirements.”
He told me that he is a person who is willing to try new things, and he has confidence in both Chinese manufacturing and the IDEAL team, which is also an important reason.
