NIO ET5’s Debut at the Car Show
At this year’s Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Auto Show, NIO showcased all of its current models. Although the highly anticipated ES7 was absent, the ET5 made its first appearance at the car show.
For a detailed introduction of ET5’s exterior and performance parameters, please check out our previous video, “Nation’s First to Open Car Doors! In-Depth Experience of NIO ET5“.
Unlike the Aerospace Blue color at the NIO Day 2021 launch, the color of this exhibit car is the much anticipated “Ad Color” – Dawn Yellow.
In addition, the ET5 display car did not have dark window tints at the car show, and we could already see the complete interior details of the ET5 through the car windows.
The ET5 offers a total of 9 interior color schemes and 3 different material options at different prices for consumers to choose from. The interior color scheme displayed at the car show was Sahara Gold with a black roof.
The overall design of the ET5’s interior continues NIO’s minimalist style, with a similar center console design to the ET7, which is also built on the NT2.0 technology platform.
It features a hidden speaker design and a centrally-located NOMI component above the T-shaped center console. Beneath this, there is the 10.2-inch instrument screen and a 12.8-inch AMOLED center control screen. According to official data, this center control screen has 100% NTSC color gamut and a contrast ratio of 100000:1.
The layout of the central console in the ET5 is consistent with the ET7. Above it is the NIO family’s electronic gearshift, and below it is a 40W wireless charging panel with two cup holders.
The design of the door panels is one of the major differences between the ET5 and the ET7. The ET7 adopts a segmented door handle design, while the ET5 adopts a solid door handle design that is connected to the central console, and the inclined door handle connects the central console to the door panel from top to bottom.
In terms of audio system, the ET5 has high software and hardware specifications. The 7.1.4 audio system is equipped with 23 speakers, supports 20-channel amplifier output, and the power can reach 1000W. Moreover, the Dolby Atmos is standard across the range.
In terms of seats, due to differences in positioning with the ET7, the ET5 adopts a one-piece sports seat design. The optional “Enjoyment Package” costs 9,500 yuan and includes a heated steering wheel, extended front seat cushions, seat ventilation and massage function, and an intelligent aromatherapy system.
At the end of April, the first batch of ET5s rolled off the fully automated production line at the NeoPark Xinqiao Intelligent Electric Vehicle Industrial Park. The full-line production is good news for NIO, who aim to deliver the ET5 by the end of the third quarter.

Geely Emgrand L Hi・X
At this year’s Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Auto Show, Geely brought its second Thunderbolt hybrid model – the Geely Emgrand L Hi・X, which has just been launched. The new car comes in 3 models, with prices ranging from 129,800 yuan to 145,800 yuan.
In terms of the exterior and interior design, the overall design style of the Emgrand L Hi・X is basically the same as that of the current Emgrand L, with the main differences in the exterior and interior colors, logos, wheels, and gear lever design, which will be adjusted to reflect its hybrid identity.
This is similar to the design differences between the previous Star Yue L and Star Yue L Hi・X.
When you hear “Thunderbolt Power”, many people might think that the Emgrand L Hi・X and the previously launched Star Yue L Hi・X share the same powertrain. But in fact, the hybrid system technology routes used by these two cars are different. The Star Yue L Hi・X uses HEV (non-plug-in hybrid), while the Emperor L Hi・X is PHEV (plug-in hybrid), which means that the Emperor L Hi・X can get a green license plate and enjoy the preferential policy of exemption from purchase tax.
The Emperor L Hi・X is equipped with a four-cylinder 1.5TD engine, matched with a front motor with a maximum power of 100kW and a maximum torque of 320N·m. The transmission system is matched with a 3-speed electric drive transmission (DHT Pro). The total power of the hybrid system is up to 233kW (317Ps), and the maximum torque can reach 610N·m. The official 0-100km/h acceleration time is only 6.9 seconds, while the actual test result was 6.75 seconds when colleagues from the editorial department participated in the test drive experience. “100 km with 3.8L, actual acceleration 6.7 seconds, the strongest opponent of BYD Qin PLUS DM-i is here!”.
At the same time, the Emperor L Hi・X has also increased the battery capacity to 15.5kWh, and the pure electric endurance has increased to 100km. The official data shows that its fuel consumption is 3.8L/100km, and the longest range under full charge and full fuel is 1300km.
Considering the current information and models on the market, BYD Qin PLUS DM-i is the biggest competitor of the Emperor L Hi・X.
Geometry E debuts
Geometry brought a brand new small SUV-Geometry E, with a total of 5 models launched and pre-sale prices ranging from 8.78 to 10.48 million yuan. The new car will be produced at the Geely 4.0 Super Smart Factory.
In terms of appearance, the body size of Geometry E is 400617651550mm, and the wheelbase is 2485mm. It provides four youthful body color choices: Qing Man, Moli, Bohua, and Blue Lian. The front of the car has simple and powerful geometric lines, which are very three-dimensional. It adopts the popular split headlight design, with DRLs crossing the entire front, and the bottom headlight group is decorated with corresponding colored accents.
The side of the car adopts a floating roof design. It is said that in the future, the Geely Geometry E will be equipped with spiral propeller-type five-spoke low drag wheels. The rear adopts a tail light group design similar to an inverted L shape.
As for the interior, it continues the minimalist design style of the exterior. However, unlike previous Geometry models, the Geometry E uses dual 10.25-inch connected screens and is equipped with iFLYTEK’s 3.5th-generation intelligent voice assistant.
The instrument panel is equipped with an interactive feature light called “Inspiration Light”, which will inform the user of the vehicle status through changes in color and light effects. It also has functions such as welcoming guests and breathing displays. In addition, high-end models are equipped with L2-level driving assistance systems.
As for the power unit, the Geometry E is equipped with a front permanent magnet synchronous motor with a maximum power of 60 kW and peak torque of 130N·m. It is equipped with two lithium iron phosphate battery packs with capacities of 33.5 kWh and 39.4 kWh, respectively, providing three endurance versions of 320 km, 380km, and 401km (NEDC conditions).
In addition, there are reports that a swapping version of the Geometry E has been submitted for approval, and the new car is planned to be officially launched in the second quarter.
