Many friends have told me that the range of Geometry A is very solid, and I am also very curious about what kind of magic this car has that so many people give it such high praise.
Moreover, Geometry A Pro has achieved a range of 600 kilometers (NEDC standard), which is a compact car. I am very curious about how Geometry A Pro achieved this.
Therefore, taking advantage of the autumn season in Beijing now, we went to Gubei Water Town for a simple test of the range of Geometry A Pro.
Next, let’s get in the car and go.
Impressive Range
Let’s start with the range that I am very concerned about.
To briefly introduce our route, we drove from Sohu Building all the way to Gubei Water Town without charging, and then came back the next day.
When we first got the car, the displayed range was 545 kilometers, and the one-way trip was about 140 kilometers, so we weren’t worried at all.
At the beginning, in the urban area, there was some traffic congestion on the road, and the weather was also very hot. These conditions are actually not friendly to the range of electric cars, but Geometry A Pro kept the energy consumption at 12.3 kWh/100 km. This performance is really good.
Moreover, according to the teacher on the same car, when they tested the old model of Geometry A last year, the energy consumption was also similar.
Although the number is almost the same, it is worth noting that the battery capacity this time has increased to 70 kWh, which is 8.1 kWh more than before, which also means that the weight of the car will increase. However, the total energy consumption remains unchanged. It has to be said that the low-key Geometry three-electric team is very proficient.
When we arrived at Miyun Service Area, the displayed range dropped to 458 kilometers, and the remaining range was 87 kilometers. At this time, the actual driving distance was 81.9 kilometers, and the proportion of the actual driving distance to the remaining range was 1:1.06.
However, when the speed exceeded 100 km/h, the energy consumption would slowly rise, because it had left the optimal efficiency range of the three-electric system. In addition, this is also related to the increase in altitude, and the energy consumption reached 13.6 kWh/100 km at the highest point. When we arrived at Gubei Water Town, the displayed range was 376 km, the remaining range was 169 km, and the actual driving range was 148.90 km, with a remaining energy ratio of 1/1.135, which is still quite good.
With this sample, we were not worried about the return trip of over 100 km.
On the second day, we didn’t charge and drove all the way back to the city, and finally the displayed range was still 231 km.
Converted, we actually drove 285 km in these two days, the remaining range was 314 km, with a difference of only 29 km.
This performance is really impressive.
Fundamentals: still familiar
After discussing the range, let’s talk about the car itself.
From the appearance, there is not much difference between the Geometry A Pro and the old Geometry A, and the dual-tone body color may be the most obvious change that can be captured at a glance.
The Geometry A Pro still gives people a simple and neat feeling in appearance. However, appearance is a matter of personal taste, so we will not go into too much detail here.
However, in terms of interior design, the Geometry A Pro feels more rich and varied.
The color matching of the old Geometry A interior is relatively plain, and whether it is the steering wheel, center console, or seats, the colors are mainly gray, white, and black. The overall style is consistent with the appearance, which is mainly based on simplicity. However, this version of the interior has not received high ratings from users, and I think this is also the reason why Geometry needs to make adjustments.
The interior of the Geometry A Pro is visually warmer than the old version, mainly using black, white, and blue three-color splicing. Moreover, the seats have been changed from fabric to PVC suede, which improves comfort and support.
Compared to the old version, I prefer the interior style of this version.
The center control area still uses the familiar E-touch, which can project the buttons onto the panel, which really improves the sense of technology. However, there is still the old problem that if used in strong light, the buttons are basically invisible, which affects the user experience.
In terms of power, the Geometry A Pro is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a maximum power of 150 kW and a maximum torque of 310 Nm, which is slightly higher than the old version of 120 kW and 250 Nm.The car is actually very flexible and easy to handle, which is quite surprising. The Geometric A Pro suspension system also performs well in filtering out fine road vibrations, and the ride quality on bumpy roads is relatively clear.
One thing to criticize about the car is its brakes. The design is too sensitive, which can easily cause a nodding phenomenon. Another teacher of mine also took some time to get used to the brakes.
This car offers three modes: Eco+, Eco, and Sport. However, it is generally not recommended to use Eco+ because many features, such as power, air conditioning, and the HUD are restricted in this mode. Eco mode is generally sufficient for daily use.
If you occasionally want to be a bit wild, you can switch to Sport mode. The car feels like it has a different character, and the throttle response becomes more agile. Correspondingly, power consumption will also increase.
How is its intelligent performance?
As a media company focused on intelligent technology in the automotive industry, the intelligent performance of this car is naturally also our focus.
Let’s first talk about the part I am most interested in: the advanced driving assistance system (ADAS). Only the two highest-spec models with a range of 600 kilometers have the ADAS, including ICC intelligent cruise control, LKA lane keeping, and road traffic sign recognition.
My conclusion is that this is a usable ADAS system.
First of all, in terms of the start-up logic, the Geometric A Pro ADAS does not use a one-button start-up similar to other automakers. The activation method is relatively complicated and requires multiple steps of operation on the steering wheel button, which has a higher learning curve.
After enabling the function, the steering wheel will continuously make micro-adjustments to correct its trajectory. This may not give people enough confidence when using it.
However, it is worth mentioning that the Geometric A Pro handles merging and accelerating and decelerating in the face of other vehicles in a very good way. The response is timely and the acceleration and deceleration are well controlled, which deserves praise.
After you turn on the ADAS function, relevant information will also be displayed on the HUD in front of you, such as current speed, speed limit, and overspeed reminders. This is beneficial because your eyes are always focused on the road ahead, improving driving safety. Even though the sun was quite bright that day, the display effect was still very good.Although the gauge is still the traditional 5-inch screen, you won’t feel uncomfortable at all because it is functional, appropriately sized, and does not obstruct your view. Additionally, there is even an HUD that provides you with information.
In fact, I think in the future, Geometry can try to remove this small gauge and add these costs to the HUD, while switching to a more advanced AR HUD (augmented reality head-up display).
As for the car system, Geometry A Pro is equipped with the GKUI smart ecosystem, which is relatively simple to operate and offers sufficient content, including built-in applications such as Kuwo Music and Amap.
Furthermore, the sensitivity and accuracy of the voice assistant recognition are high, and even when broadcasting, the tone is not so mechanical, having a hint of the scent of an emotional assistant, which is trendy nowadays.
If you want to achieve more vehicle control functions, you need to log in to your account to do so. Unfortunately, due to the nature of this test-drive vehicle, I was not able to experience this, but I certainly will next time.
In summary, at the current stage, the competitiveness of Geometry A Pro’s car system is excellent.
In April 2019, Geometry A (410 km range, 500 km range) was released, and two years later, in April 2021, Geometry A Pro (430 km range, 600 km range) was released. Despite the increase in range, the price has decreased from 150,000-190,000 RMB to 118,700-188,700 RMB.
The entry-level price has been directly lowered to around 120,000 RMB (118,700 RMB), and even less than 150,000 RMB can buy a Geometry A Pro with a range of 600 km. At that time, 150,000 RMB could only buy the entry-level Geometry A, and the range was only 410 km.
I suddenly remembered the slogan that Geometry Automotive gave when it was launched, “Geometry A Pro is seriously launching.” This time, they have done it with sincerity.
However, one point to note is that the Geometry Automotive team is still too low-key, and their voice is not loud enough, and the brand recognition among users is not strong enough. Therefore, improving brand recognition through good publicity is a significant priority for them.
