NIO Recalls 4,803 ES8 Vehicles
On June 27th, NIO released its “Statement on Partial ES8 Recall”.
Among them, the conclusion of the previous accident investigation was that “the battery pack used by the accident vehicle is equipped with a NEV-P50 module. The voltage sampling harness in the module may be squeezed by the module cover due to individual orientations. Under extreme conditions, the exposed insulation material of the voltage sampling harness that is squeezed may wear out, causing a short circuit and resulting in potential safety hazards.”
Although NIO produced its own battery pack, the battery module is provided by CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited).
Shortly after NIO’s statement was published, CATL also released its “Announcement on the Recall of NIO’s ES8 Department”.
CATL found through its investigation that interference occurred between the battery pack housing of the recalled vehicles and the structure of the module supplied by us, which might lead to risks of short circuits in low-voltage sampling wires under certain extreme conditions, posing potential safety hazards.
Quick Comment: For a detailed analysis and conclusion of the matter, please refer to our previous article “Behind the Recall of 4,803 NIO ES8 Vehicles“.
However, for the majority of spectators, the conclusion of this matter may not be important. From the statements of these two companies, I just want to use one emoji to comment on it↓↓↓
Tesla releases statement on Shanghai vehicle accident
On June 28th, the day after NIO issued a recall statement, Tesla finally released a statement regarding the vehicle accident in Shanghai that took them 2 months and 7 days to issue.
Believing that no one had patience to read the statement, a netizen nicely summarized it as shown in the picture below:
Quick Comment: This statement from Tesla is really biting off more than they can chew, it’s basically a suicidal statement that hurts consumers. By the way, Tesla China, is your PR department still alive?
Ideal to be renamed Ideal Vehicle
On June 26th, Ideal Vehicle announced that its company name and brand name were unified and renamed Ideal Vehicle. The names of “Chehejia” and “Ideal Made” will no longer be used.
Company Name: Ideal Vehicle
Brand Name: Ideal Vehicle
Product Name (i.e. Vehicle Model Name): Ideal ONE
Title: Li Xiang, Founder and CEO of Ideal Vehicle
Quick Comment: To be honest, because I was more familiar with “Chehejia” before, I didn’t think that “Chehejia”, “Ideal Made”, and “Ideal ONE” were so complicated when they were put together, until I saw the picture below…
So the question is, please answer within 3 seconds, what is the relationship between Ideal Made ONE and Li Xiang Made ONE?### GWM Electric 93 Model Goes into Mass Production
On June 29th, GWM Electric’s 93 model went into mass production. The GWM Electric 93 is a pure electric vehicle based on the SAAB Phoenix E platform, with a pre-subsidy presale price of RMB 1.698 million.
In terms of power, it has a maximum power of 130 kW, a peak torque of 280 Nm, and a top speed of 140 km/h.
The power battery is from CATL, with a capacity of 45 kWh, and a NEDC range of 355 km.
Quick Comment: After seeing the actual car, many netizens thought that the design of this car was too outdated, like a design style from 10 years ago. Sorry, you’re wrong. The prototype of the GWM Electric 93 model, the SAAB 9-3, was actually born in 1998…
As we all know, SAAB’s advertising slogan back then was “man and car in one, flying close to the ground.” But now…, using the irony of a netizen, “once a land aircraft, now the fastest is only 140 km/h.”
BMW Power BEV Spy Shots Exposed
BMW showcased a pure electric car with a 5 Series shell at NEXTGen, named the Power BEV. The car is equipped with three motors, the same as those on the iX3. One motor is located on the front axle and two on the rear axle, with a maximum output power of 530 kW (720 hp), maximum torque of 1150 Nm, and an acceleration of less than 3 seconds to 100 km/h.
The two motors on the rear axle can achieve left and right torque vector output. Compared to models that use a limited-slip differential, the cornering performance is more powerful. BMW engineers are currently exploring the potential of electric drive.>Quick comment: It’s no surprise that BMW, known for its sports cars, may have many supercars hiding from it once the Power BEV is mass-produced and available for sale based on the current parameters that have been exposed. However, we do not yet know how far it can travel on a single charge, and we hope it is not just a short-distance sprinter.
A Small Survey in One Week
The biggest event in the car industry last week was undoubtedly the recall of ES8 by NIO, as evidenced by our WeChat index rankings, in which both NIO and the ES8 have an index value that is one order of magnitude higher than others…
Soon after NIO and CATL released their statements, we launched a poll “Do you think the recent incidents of ES8 battery safety issues are NIO’s or CATL’s fault?” to see what people think.
65% of those polled believe that it is NIO’s problem, and many others have expressed their own views in the comments section, each with their own reasoning. One of the opinions is quite interesting ↓↓↓
Yes, why can’t it be JAC’s fault! After all, all the ES8’s are sticking to JAC’s cars…
